Happy Lunar New Year! I made a short hop up to Chinatown for the beginning of a the week-long Spring festival. (And more importantly, the dragons!)
A preview of the lanterns that will go on display next weekend…
…and the dragon parade that goes around to each building to bless it with good fortune for the next year! The dragon has to ‘eat’ one of the red money envelopes that’s taped above each doorway. There are firecrackers and drums, but I was more entertained by watching the dragon try to jump high enough to reach the envelopes. Some of them were quite a stretch!
And then, because it’s the new year, I had my fortune told by a wizened old Chinese lady. She gave me this lucky coin, which I can choose to either keep or offer at a shrine, for some mystery luck.
