TokyoParty Weekend!

I’m footloose and luggage-free, so it’s time for the Tokyo Cultural Experience.

“Where we’re going, we don’t need roads!” (It’s a temple, but I think it looks like a spaceship.)

After I dropped off my luggage yesterday, I met up with my ski-buddies for dinner and dessert at the Sailor Moon Cafe :

Today has been designated as my museum-hopping day. I started with TeamLabs: Borderless, a super cool interactive digital art museum.

(Tastefully located in Palette Town, which is decorated in rainbow colors.)

I had a good time being a nerd and trying to figure out what kind of sensing devices they were using for each exhibit.

Even the cafe was part of the experience! I still haven’t figured out the triggers, but my ice cream sprouted leaves and flowers grew in my tea. When you drank from it and put it back down, the petals blew away.

Then I skipped across town to go to the Studio: Ghibli Museum. My fun fact of the day is that tickets are $10, and you have to buy them a month in advance. However, some incredibly helpful and selfless people offer ticket purchasing services; for $40-$50 a ticket. (I bought mine using the auto-teller at a 7/11. I’m appalled.)

They have a no-pictures inside policy (which was something of a relief, as it meant you could actually go play and run around without being stuck behind hoardes of instagrammers.)

Definitely worth the experience, despite the lack of translations for the displays. You can figure out most of it from context, unless you’re super into Miyazaki (in which case, you probably already know everything.)

Spicy pork ramen for dinner. Yum!
