Dust in the wind

…and in my hair, and pretty much everywhere else.

But that’s what you sign up for with an ATV tour of Jurassic Valley, aka Kualoa Ranch; site of ‘those random jungle scenes’ from Jumanji, Karate Kid, and, of course, Jurassic Park (#1-5000). They offer other activities, like horseback riding and ziplining, but we were more determined to view the movie sites. And by movie sites, I mean this photo and this photo only:

Zipping around in an ATV here made it incredibly easy to picture myself on the run from a T-Rex.

I can’t say I was overly interested in the rest of the “this scene was filmed here” indicators, but Kualoa Valley was gorgeous.

Even Blue is afraid.

Jokes aside, I’m still not convinced I’ve got all the dirt out. I washed my face and then realized the dirt was so caked around my eyes it looked like I was wearing eyeliner. When they say bring eye protection, they’re not kidding.

After an exhausting SCUBA trip yesterday (pics to come as soon as I figure out how to use the underwater camera), I decided to take it easy and spent the day at the beach with my book. I found a good perch where I could see the surf come in without (mostly) getting hit by the breakers.

My fun fact for the day is that crabs are like butterflies, in that if you sit still for long enough, they’ll crawl onto your foot, attempt to eat your skin, and then walk away disappointed. (It tickles, in case you’re wondering. Bees are far more intimidating.)

Then I rolled around in the sand for good measure, and followed this guy back into town. Have I mentioned that I’m susceptible to blatant marketing schemes?

Oh, well. It was true, in any case. I have one more week before I flip to night shift, which I’m looking forward to. Mostly because I’ll be able to hit the beach in the morning, before there are witnesses to my lack of coordination as I learn to surf.
