The one with lots of plants

Oahu has several “botanical gardens”, which vary between “city park” and “actual gardens.” Waimea Falls has a surprisingly vast collection of tropical plants, including non-native ones (not that I would have known). However, some of the plant names are silly (or difficult to remember), so I’ve taken the liberty of renaming them.

We’ll start with one that I actually know the name of. Polka-dot begonias!
The “feed me, Seymour!” Also called a canon ball tree.
A close-up of the blossoms.
Why is it called a canon ball tree? This is the fruit, which weighs around 4
pounds. Evidently it’s edible, but smells rather unappetizing.
Chinese lanterns.
Pinecone trees. I think it’s actually in the ginger family.
More things that look like Chinese New Year decorations.
Winged Flowers.
Paper-mache flowers. This one is actually native to Hawai’i.
Dragon tails!
The lizard plant.
Small intestines.
I don’t have a name for this one, I just liked the color.
This one is called “cup and saucer.” I approve.
BANANAS HAVE A TAIL!!
Sea urchin.
I’m out of plants. Have a happy coconut!
